"I'm incredibly excited to launch this new tax credit to save Colorado businesses money," said Governor Jared Polis. "Employee ownership is a business model with unlimited potential to increase employee motivation, engagement and retention." By covering up to 50 percent of exchange costs, we hope to see more Colorado small businesses take advantage of this growing business opportunity.

Employee ownership is a proven mechanism for improving business performance and increasing broad profit sharing. Its many benefits include a guaranteed succession plan, a more engaged workforce, the ability to attract and retain top talent, economic flexibility and a higher quality of life for employee-owners.

"We are grateful to the Legislature and Governor Paul for providing us with this tool to support employee ownership exchanges," said Patrick Myers, executive director at OEDIT and chief economic recovery officer for Colorado. "Employee ownership is widely supported, and the businesses we speak to that have transformed their company culture and employee engagement have inspiring stories about employee ownership." The employer property tax credit will allow us to build more of these stories across the state.

The Employer Property Tax Credit will be available for application prior to January 1, 2022 to assess business eligibility for the program. Once qualified, a business can secure the tax credit, apply for the tax credit (expected to be available in the summer of 2022), and claim the tax credit on the Colorado corporate income tax. Send it by email, link or fax. You can also download, export or print.
