German Stg 44 - It was ten minutes to three in the morning on June 6, 1944. Night parachute drops were not pleasant, even if you weren't tearing up a big, dense, hard target over occupied France. The sound of a light fly beating its wings was like a pebble thrown into a castle barn. Outside the windows of the port cabin, a yellow flame began to appear and suddenly turned from red to green. Sgt Ernest Feldman walked out the door.
Feldman flew lower and faster than he had in practice, and the unexpectedly strong current tore off his gun and bag. He had hit the ground after getting up and was surprised he was still breathing. Now armed only with a Colt M1911A1 pistol and a flying knife, the short Frenchman shivered alone at night. It was going to be a long evening.

Stg44: How Nazi Germany Created The Very First Assault Rifle
During the day, Feldman used all his captured ammunition and killed several Germans from the challenge. He found a rifle matching the M1 Garand and tossed the odd German weapon into the brush pile. The resulting StG44 was a large company. However, the distinctive sound he made attracted the attention of other paratroopers.
A little embellishment, but the story mentioned above is true. About 13,000 Allied troops flew into Normandy on the morning of D-Day. This mass combat operation was the first exposure of many Americans to the new German machine gun. The StG44 changed everything.
Every modern assault rifle on the planet comes from its lineage. The MP43 was the ancestor of the MP44, which became the StG44. There were subtle differences, but the average person couldn't tell the three guns apart without looking at the markings.
Adolf Hitler's suicide caused the German engineers of World War II to reach a great height of innovation and industry. Their efforts ushered the world into a new era in the ballistic missile, the modern battleship, and the main battle tank. The StG44 began as a 1942 design competition between Haenel and Walther, who produced the MKb-42(H) and MKb-42(W) respectively. 7,800 copies of each gun were tested by the army on the Eastern Front. The Walther gun was installed and the Haenel model was selected for further refinement.
Hugo Schmeisser developed the basic chassis as the MP43, MP43/I, MP44 and StG44. The MP43 and MP43/I differ only in their grenade launchers. The main difference that separated the first MP43 from the later StG44 was the name.

The StG44 actually began life as a revolutionary new cartridge in 1938 at the Polte ammunition factory in Magdeburg. The 7.92x33mm Kurz round propelled a slightly smaller bullet than the larger 7.92x57mm round and fired half the powder charge. The resulting compact cartridge weighed less than a third and offered greater flexibility. The Germans finally called the new cartridge

You will recall that Hitler had little interest in building infantry rifles that fired anything but the 7.92x57mm ball. The Fallschirmjagers FG42 deployed in that phase was a perfect example. So the German Waffen-Am made two decisions about the new medium round being fodder for self-propelled pistols. The earlier versions were called MP43 and MP44.

Most modern infantry engagements take place at 400 yards or less, so the extra power put into a thumb-sized rifle was lost anyway. The central concept of the cartridge eventually became the international standard. Today's 7.62x39mm Blackout, 5.45x39mm, 5.56mm and .300 Blackout are all based on the concept of the 7.92x33mm Kurz round.
The StG44 weighs 11.5 pounds, but the magazines are comfortable and the controls are intuitive. The thumb stick on the left is the safety. The crossbolt button serves as the fire selector. Click left for the semi truck and right for the rock and steering wheel. The magazine release is on the left side and is easily accessible with the left thumb. The non-responsive charging port is on the left side and is easy to operate.
Operation of the StG44 is rare. The small positive stroke of the rifle rests the barrel twice. 500 rpm sharp allows you to write your name on the full car.

The StG44 was too small to have a major impact on the outcome of World War II, but it laid the foundation for the design of the small arms we build today. The STG-44, or Sturmgewehr 44, is an assault rifle developed in Nazi Germany during World War II and issued to the Millennium Soldiers. The STG-44 is based on the principle of combining the high speed of an automatic weapon with the power of a gun. The gun has a length of 94 cm (37 in) and a barrel length of 42 cm (16.5 in). The weapon has the ability to select fire of 500-600 rounds per minute and a muzzle speed of 685 m / s, allowing half and full fire.
